He says, "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." Psalm 46:10
The Word In Motion
The words "be still and know" in this verse does not mean stay still, don't move, or sink into a place of one’s own thoughts. It means deliberately being quiet and focusing on God and God alone.
When you have been brought into relationship with God, through Jesus Christ, you will experience wonderful life experiences with Him. As you learn about Him, to wait on Him, and to trust in Him there will come into you a place of rest. You will gain an ability to be still when the storms of life rage around you. A stillness (security, knowledge) that settles in your heart, that... God is in control, that all things are possible with Him, and that all things work for good. This stillness or rest is the certainty that God is at work in your life, doing all in accordance with His will and purpose for you.
Be still - to be quiet, at peace, quit struggling - trust Him. When circumstances arise we tend in our flesh to yell, scream fight, grumble, worry, etc... This part of the verse is saying STOP! Be Still! Be quiet! Listen! Rest secure in who God, is. To do this means... you have to KNOW Him.
Know I am God - This is not just head knowledge, this is knowing Him with all your heart and soul also. Where, what your head knows and what your heart experiences of Him brings peace to the soul in all circumstances. The peace of God which transcends all understanding.
Have you entered into this kind of stillness, where you are at total rest because you know with out a doubt He is God? Time to learn more about Him. Time to trust Him to be all that He is. Time to learn to be still when the seas roar and the fires burn. Be still and know, He is God and He loves you without limitations.
Dear Papa God, help me to grow in my knowledge of You, not just in my head but in my heart and soul also. Help me to know you intimately and to trust in that knowledge of who You are. Help me to BE STILL and be quiet, in my circumstances. Help me to respond in who you are and not react because of how I feel or my fears. Give me the faith to stand firm and be still in my life. Teach me more about you and your love for me. Amen.
