The Living Word
“This is the one I esteem: He who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at My word.” Isaiah 66:2
The Word in Motion
Esteem - value highly, respect, have high regard for.
Humble and contrite - repentant, broken, a spirit opposite of proud haughty or full of self. A reverent heart. Dependence on God. Surrender of will, conviction of sin, reverent fear.
Trembles at my word - reveres and respects God's word. Responds in obedience.
“With pride comes emptiness and shame, with humility comes skillful, Godly wisdom and soundness.” Proverbs 11:2
Humility is a temper of mind which affects our estimate of ourselves. It is where we realize our weaknesses and vulnerabilities can be our strengths when we earnestly seek God's wisdom. “In our weaknesses His power is made great.” II Corinthians 12:9
Why we need to clothe ourselves in humility
1. God regards humility highly
2. He lifts up the humble
3. He dwells with humble
4. He gives grace to humble
5. He doesn't despise the prayers of the humble
6. He rewards the humble
The bending of the humble is like the graceful droop of branches laden with fruit.
In the childlike spirit of humble dependence we are open to the influence of heaven!
